Concussion Rehabilitation, Management, & Mentorship
Are You Struggling After a Concussion?
As an adventure sport athlete, you’re used to pushing your limits and embracing the wild. But when a concussion sidelines you, you’re facing a new type of uncertainty with limitations you aren’t accustomed to. The key is learning to work with where you’re at right now, developing strategies to support your brain as it heals while you navigate the nitty-gritty of life, while steadily working towards actively rehabilitating your brain’s many functions and returning to the life and outdoor pursuits you love.
The old advice to rest in a dark room after concussion until your symptoms subside is just that – old. And incorrect. The past decade of research has shown that concussion is a rehabilitative injury, and early therapeutic intervention can prevent persistent symptom development. If your concussion happened months or even years ago, however, and you do have persistent symptoms, it’s not too late: recent research and dedicated clinicians have proven that the brain is capable of significant improvement even years after the injury.
I specialize in comprehensive concussion rehabilitation, management, and mentorship designed specifically for outdoor enthusiasts like you. I’m a physical therapist who’s a seasoned professional and a lifelong adventure athlete, and I’ve crafted this hybrid rehabilitation-management-mentorship program to help guide you through your recovery and into optimal brain-body health.
I’ve been there too…
In 2020, my life took an unexpected turn when I experienced a life-changing concussion in a high speed mountain bike crash. As an athlete and therapist, I was well-acquainted with the challenges of rehabilitation—but nothing could have prepared me for the profound impact of what was classified as a “mild” traumatic brain injury. Navigating my own recovery journey was both eye-opening and transformative as I struggled with persistent symptoms for over three years.
Through countless hours of rehabilitation and personal reflection, I gained an intimate understanding of the complexities involved in recovering from a concussion and the compounding effects of repetitive head injuries, as this was my fourth, but the first that persisted beyond the acute phase. This experience fueled my determination to combine my professional expertise as a physical therapist with my hard-earned personal insights to help others facing similar challenges.
In the spring of 2024, I embarked on four months of intensive concussion specialty training and mentorship, focused on advancing my knowledge and skills in this critical field. This post-graduate level education, grounded in cutting-edge scientific research and taught by multidisciplinary researchers and clinicians on the front lines of advancing concussion medicine, has equipped me with the latest techniques and strategies to address every aspect of concussion recovery.
Coincidentally, I experienced a fifth concussion near the end of this program when I was hit in the head by a flying metal roof during a windstorm. Armed with my updated expertise, I managed my recovery in a much more productive and proactive way, and the differences this time around have been remarkable.
Committed to understanding the treatment and management of concussion from all angles, including the naturopathic and holistic perspective, I am currently undergoing three additional months of concussion specialty training from industry-leading multidisciplinary clinicians and researchers in alternative medicine fields including naturopathic doctors, functional medicine doctors, and chiropractors, along with holistic-minded conventional medicine providers, who specialize in concussion.
Whether you recently experienced a concussion or you’ve been dealing with symptoms for way too long, I’d love to leverage what I’ve learned to help make a difference for you as well, with specialized rehabilitation and supportive mentorship.
Why Work With Me?
1. Expertise Rooted in Experience
Yes, I have education and expertise in concussion rehabilitation as a healthcare provider—and I’ve also lived it on your side of the table. With years of experience both as a physical therapist and as an adventure athlete, I understand the unique challenges and demands that come with recovering from a concussion and trying to get back to our regular lives and our passion of moving our bodies in the outdoors. My personal journey with concussions has given me invaluable insights and empathy, and I’d love to guide you through your recovery.
2. Tailored Rehabilitation
I know that every person’s journey is unique, and every concussion is unique: there are seven key systems affected by concussion, and the degree to which each of these systems are impacted is different for everyone. That’s why this program is designed to address your specific needs and goals. Whether you’re struggling with dizziness, balance issues, sleep issues, fatigue, emotional dysregulation, or vision challenges, our sessions provide personalized care and strategies to help you heal effectively and return to your adventures.
3. Comprehensive Virtual and Hybrid Support
Access engaging, effective concussion care from the comfort of your home with our fully virtual program. Having an online platform offers flexible scheduling, interactive sessions, and real-time feedback between sessions, so you can continue your recovery without interrupting your daily life or having to use up precious energy navigating traffic to drive to a clinic. If you are local to the Tucson, AZ area or to northwest Washington State, depending on the season there may be possibilities for a hybrid in-person/virtual approach — contact me for details.
4. Mentorship Beyond Rehab
Rehabilitation is just the beginning. A concussion can disrupt your entire life, for weeks or even months to years for the ~30% of people who develop persistent symptoms, and it can be tough to navigate. Even as a physical therapist, prior to experiencing this myself I had no idea of the havoc a concussion could wreak on one’s life, career, and relationships — my previous three concussions had been textbook quick recoveries — and I lost nearly everything in that first year. I had very little support and guidance for this part of the process, and it was tough. Now on the other side, I’m committed to providing that support and guidance along with my rehabilitative expertise, so you don’t have to fumble around in confusion like I did while trying to get your life back.
A Holistic Approach to Concussion Recovery
This concussion rehabilitation and mentorship program combines post-doctoral-level education, cutting-edge scientific research, and my personal lived experience to provide comprehensive support. We address all eight systems that are often disrupted in head injury, plus the additional mentorship piece:
Autonomic: Restoration of nervous system health and function.
Metabolic: Helping to heal the brain from inflammation and dysfunction caused by the structural injury of concussion.
Orthopedic: Healing of structural injuries and pain; usually in the neck.
Visual: Improvement of visual processing and symptoms.
Vestibular: Recovery from balance and dizziness issues.
Emotional: Support for mental health, emotional well-being, and nervous system regulation.
Cognitive: Enhancement of cognitive function and clarity.
Sleep: An element often overlooked but frequently disrupted in concussion that needs to be optimized for healing.
Mentorship: Guidance and support for managing the complexities of post-concussion life and recovery.
My goal is to guide you through a supportive return to health and to the outdoors, ensuring you’re prepared to embrace your next adventure with confidence and strength. If during our work together I feel that you would benefit from having other specialists involved with your care in a multidisciplinary approach (if you’re not seeing other providers already), or if I feel you would benefit from any specific interventions that would best be completed in-person, I will discuss this with you and make appropriate recommendations or referrals. If you have questions about this, please ask.

Springboard Session:
Comprehensive Concussion Consultation
This is for people who want to set up a one-time consultation to get some guidance on your concussion journey, or ask follow-up questions about your individual situation after reading my free e-book. This is also the first step in starting an integrative concussion rehabilitation & mentorship program, or booking standalone sessions.
Here’s how it works:
Step 1:
I will send you detailed, concussion-specific intake forms to fill out. I know we all hate filling out forms, but this is very important for me to be exceptionally prepared for our session together and make the most out of our time. Before our session, I will go through a detailed analysis and assessment of your forms and prepare for our session.
Step 2:
We will get on a call together for up to 90 minutes. This may be difficult for some people with highly activated symptoms, so we will do it in a way that is sustainable for you. This might mean we take a few short “brain breaks” during the session, and we will do as much of it as possible with audio alone so you will not have to look at a screen for very long. Much of it you will even be able to do while you’re lying in bed, if necessary. We may not need the full 90 minutes, but I want to ensure that we have enough time to cover what we need to cover.
Based on what I see in your pre-call intake assessment, I may want us to jump on camera for me to do some physical movement or visual testing — but we will keep this concise and take breaks as needed.
After a conversation and any testing we might do, we will come up with an action plan together for next steps in your journey to help you move forward with clarity and confidence. I will give you some initial rehabilitation exercises to get you started, so that regardless of whether it is best for you to move forward with me or with other providers, you will be able to actively work on your recovery in the meantime as you are getting set up.
Step 3:
After the call, I will send you an email summary to have for reference, any resources/exercises we discussed, and a reminder of the action steps provided.
Investment:
Consultation investment is $300. If you decide after the consultation to join one of my monthly programs, $100 of this session can be credited to that program. Sliding scale pricing may be available, see my pricing page for details and please ask if you are interested in this option.
Ongoing Support for Your Journey
Concussion Rehabilitation & Mentorship Programs
Integrative Program
The whole package: specialized rehabilitation with real-time updates to your plan between sessions as needed, combined with supportive mentorship to help you manage your concussion journey. Appropriate for someone with a recent concussion (<1 month), or for those with persistent symptoms.
The time you will need in this program is based on your individual situation, injury, and symptom timeline. We will start with one month to establish a stable baseline and rehabilitation practices for you, and go from there. Every concussion is different.
Investment: $600 for the first month of the integrative program, cost varies beyond the first month depending on individual needs.
Price breakdown:
$100/45+ min session (discounted from regular price of $150) for 4 sessions = $400
$50/week for ongoing mentorship and support in managing your concussion journey plus real-time updates to your rehabilitation plan as needed, via asynchronous communication (voice notes, text, and video) = $200
Payment plans are available at no extra cost.
Sliding scale spots are available on a limited basis, please see my Pricing page for details and inquire if you are interested in this option.
Standalone Rehab Sessions
Standalone Sessions
If you’re already working with someone to manage your concussion recovery and are seeking conventional physical therapy sessions without ongoing support or program adjustments between visits, we can explore this option.
That said, I generally don’t recommend standalone sessions, as most people benefit significantly from ongoing support to address concussion symptoms and multi-system challenges as a whole. This approach helps you navigate milestones and unexpected challenges with guidance from someone who truly understands your experience—something friends and family may not always provide.
If you’re confident you don’t need consistent support or are receiving it elsewhere, standalone sessions are available. Contact me to discuss your needs.
Follow-up standalone rehabilitation sessions: $150 per 45+ min session, frequency will vary based on individual needs.
Sliding scale spots are available on a limited basis, please see my Pricing page for details and inquire if you are interested in this option.
Mentorship Only
If you're already seeing a physical therapist who specializes in concussion recovery, that's excellent! However, you might still face challenges in daily life with managing energy, expectations, emotions, nutrition, and sleep after your injury.
Guidance from someone who has experienced concussion and also understands the science behind it can be incredibly helpful to support your recovery. Send me a note to chat about details.
Investment: $300/month
Price breakdown:
$50/20+ minute weekly check-in call (x4)
$25/week for ongoing mentorship and support in managing your concussion journey via asynchronous communication (voice notes, text, and video) = $100
*This is not rehabilitation, so while I will provide guidance on sleep, nutrition, energy conservation, exercise, and managing daily life with concussion symptoms, I will not be prescribing or managing specific rehabilitation protocols in this program.
Payment plans are available at no extra cost.
Sliding scale spots are available on a limited basis, please see my Pricing page for details and inquire if you are interested in this option.
